Day 39 to the Southpole
WHAT A DAY ☀️☀️☀️☀️ Today Antarctica has shown itself from its very best side 💙 As usual, we’ve been out skiing. It’s a steady climb here at 86 degrees, and we’re now approaching 1,800 meters above sea level — which means we only have 1,000 vertical meters left to go. Christmas, a birthday, and New Year are all coming up, and this year we plan to celebrate all three with a ski tour! Hope the snow starts falling back home soon too, so everyone gets a white Christmas. By the w

Day 38 to the Southpole
Here’s a natural English translation: Today has been a big day!! First of all, we celebrated the 4th Sunday of Advent — lighting candles and singing a song. It was a wonderful way to start the day. The other big thing that happened today was that we crossed 86 degrees South! That means there are only 444 km left 🙌❄️ Emma got a lollipop, which she receives every time we cross a degree — just like when I was a child and needed a little extra motivation on trips. The motivation

Day 37 to the Southpole
Today we woke up to blue skies and brilliant sunshine! It feels wonderful to sense the warmth of the sun on your skin — even if it’s only for a brief moment before it starts to burn, either from the sun or the cold — but that’s just how it is. We keep trudging along at our usual steady pace, with a bit less payoff in kilometers than we’d like, but we’re still moving forward, slowly but surely! ❄️ We’ll enter 86 degrees tomorrow — that’s exciting! It’ll probably look completel

Day 36 to the Southpole
What a beautiful day here in the south! The sun is shining from an almost completely blue sky, and there’s no wind at all. We skied today wearing just shell jackets and no gloves! This could without a doubt have been the best day. But — and there is always a “but” — during the night it snowed a few centimeters, and that made the day extremely heavy. The sleds felt glued to the ground, and we fought like the heroes we are to haul them uphill with us! All in all, we’re very ple

Day 35 to the Southpole
Today we climbed the so-called “monster hill” — a slope you can see from a looong distance before you reach it. It looks like the Great Wall of China on steroids: enormous and immovable. But as you get closer, it slowly but surely flattens out. It’s steep, but not steep in the way you think of a steep hill back home. We made it up in the end, and that was today’s victory! Very pleased with our own effort 🏔️ Still whiteout and fresh snow, but after all, it is Christmas — so

Day 34 to the Southpole
Now we’ve finally started navigating toward the South Pole! Up until now, we’ve been navigating toward the Thiel Mountains. It feels amazing!! We also got good weather, so we caught some views of the mountains and really enjoyed it. Now the real work begins — the uphill sections are coming — but it’s a beautiful day in Antarctica ❄️ Later, skaters!

Day 33 to the Southpole
Today started in the glass of milk again, but luckily the terrain was flat and gentle, so it was fine to walk blind. We aimed for Thiel Corner, a mountain massif roughly halfway to the South Pole. We deliberately did a “short” day — about 6 hours and 18 km — and with that, we had a rest day! It felt really good to have two extra hours in camp to recharge. The funny thing is that we’ve been skiing for about three weeks without seeing anything but snow and sky, and then we reac

Day 32 to the Southpole
Today started with whiteout, which took a bit of air out of the balloon. Whiteout is what I have nightmares about. But we pushed on at our usual steady pace, and thankfully there was some horizon — and as the day went on, conditions gradually improved. Around midday, we started to see mountains!! A big moment, since it’s been a long time since we’ve seen anything other than snow. They are the Thiel Mountains, which for many serve as the visual marker of the halfway point to t

Day 31 to the Southpole
Today has been a fantastic day! A lot of wind at the start of the day, but with wind comes firmer snow — and we welcome that gladly. We’re finally back up in kilometers after a few days of heavy trudging. Around lunchtime we spotted some huuuuge crevasses far off in the distance — the only thing to look at besides snow and sky, which was pretty exciting! We’re also celebrating 114 years since Amundsen reached the South Pole today! Should be a public holiday, if you ask me. Ha

Day 28 to the Southpole
Today’s weather forecast from weather guru Lars was: whiteout and snow. That didn’t happen — instead, we’ve had yet another fine day here in Antarctica. We had a patch of blue sky above our heads all day, giving us good visibility and great spirits. It snowed a little, but only from the clouds surrounding our little blue patch. As Roald so nicely put it, luck follows those who are well prepared. Otherwise, life out here is exactly as it should be. Cozy! We also crossed 84 deg

Day 30 to the Southpole
Today we’re celebrating both Lucia Day and the fact that we’ve skied every single day for one whole month!! What an amazing day!! The weather didn’t quite match our festive mood, but that’s just how it is. Lots of wind and “pools” of fresh snow made the day slow — though not as slow as yesterday, so we’ll gladly take that ❄️🥛 Hope everyone has eaten some good, dry lussekatter and sung loudly — happy Saturday!

Day 29 to the Southpole
From one second to the next, the weather and conditions go from being fine to turning into a full glass of milk that we’re wandering around inside. Impossible to see whether it’s going uphill or downhill. It’s an exciting affair — but a tiring one too. A layer of fresh snow made the sleds heavy, and when the whiteout joined in, progress almost came to a standstill. BUT after 8 hours, we had actually moved farther than where we started the day, so I guess that counts as a vict

Day 27 to the Southpole
Today was what I would define as a tropical day in Antarctica. When we woke up, it was cloudy, but during the morning the clouds lifted, and then the warmth came. The thermometer on the pole showed +5 degrees Celsius. In my mind, temperatures like that don’t belong on the coldest continent on Earth. It makes you think — and it is important to think about — what we are doing to our planet. How can we justify an expedition like this when considering the footprint it leaves on

Day 26 to the Soutpole
If anything in this existence can be called “everyday life,” I think today would be it. After 26 days on the expedition, we’re deeply into our routines and everything runs like a well-oiled machine. The morning routine flows step by step; each of us knows where the other is and what comes next on the agenda. When we’re done packing up inside the tent, we take it down without speaking — we both know which stakes the other will pull and who handles what. At exactly 9 o’clock we

Day 25 to the Southpole
Today has been yet another brilliant day! We had quite a bit of uphill, which meant the sastrugi returned as well. We pushed on at our usual steady pace, and after 8 hours we put up the tent. A calm day with Anne Grete Preus’ song Når Himmelen Faller Ned stuck in my head: “We’ve heard that no two snowflakes are alike, and you can think about wonders like that for a while,” and I’ve truly been thinking about that for many days. Very fascinating!

Day 23 to the Southpole
Today we saw people for the first time in 23 days! A Brit aiming for the speed record raced past us — we waved, he waved, and then it was all over. We’ve also reached 83 degrees South, which means there are only 777 km to go!! The landscape here is flat and beautiful, with small sastrugi and blue skies 💙 Happy Saturday!

Day 24 to the Southpole
Antarctica 💙 How would you describe a day here? The white horizon extends all around us towards a radiant sun in a clear blue sky. It's so stunning and pristine that you must see it to believe it — and even then, it feels incredible. This is a place where your thoughts drift freely, and you just follow them wherever they lead. The skis glide across the snow with the sled trailing behind, the tent goes up and comes down. Life in Antarctica is simple 💙 S 83.299799° W 80.46431

Day 22 to the Southpole
Today we started the day by listening to a Christmas song — we do that throughout December until Spotify shuts off because we’ve been without reception for too long. Today’s song was All I Want for Christmas Is You , and that one hit me with an instant wave of homesickness right in the soul. It’s one thing to be away from the people you love for a long time, but being away during Christmas is something else. It feels a bit heavy at times, but once we got going, everything fel

Day 21 to the Southpole
What a day 🤩 Brilliant sunshine from a cloudless sky and just a little wind. A near-perfect day in Antarctica. The day started, as usual, with coffee in the sleeping bag, served by today’s kitchen girl, Emma, followed by a portion of oatmeal with butter! We found a really good butter in Punta Arenas. Then it was time to pack up house and home and bring it all with us. Out on skis — cheerful as always 😊 After a small uphill section with some sastrugi, the terrain finally fla

Day 20 to the Southpole
Today has been a good day overall, but we were both a bit low on “puff,” as we call it. We climbed about 100 meters of elevation, so you could say it was an uphill kind of day — but what really made it tough was the sheet-ice surface over fairly large sastrugi. That just makes skiing difficult in general. Still, we kept going for 8 hours before crawling into our sleeping bags and enjoying some good food and hot cocoa after the day was done. By the way, Emma won at Idiot the
