Today started with whiteout, which took a bit of air out of the balloon. Whiteout is what I have nightmares about. But we pushed on at our usual steady pace, and thankfully there was some horizon — and as the day went on, conditions gradually improved. Around midday, we started to see mountains!! A big moment, since it’s been a long time since we’ve seen anything other than snow. They are the Thiel Mountains, which for many serve as the visual marker of the halfway point to the South Pole. We’re already more than halfway in terms of kilometers, but it’s a great marker to have passed.

We’ll reach the mountains tomorrow, and we’re really looking forward to it!! 🗻
