Day 54 to the Southpole - Second-to-last day!

Today is the last “normal” day — where we wake up, ski, pitch the tent, and go to sleep again. I can hardly believe it. There are 55 kilometers left to the South Pole.
We started the day in a whiteout — the milk-glass feeling had clearly made its return. But I think it was just the weather gods making sure the final days wouldn’t be too easy. It was fine though; we had overcast conditions for the first seven hours of the day before the sun finally broke through into blue skies for the last three.
I think we’re both feeling a strange kind of ambivalence about arriving soon. It doesn’t quite feel real yet, and neither of us has any big expectations. There’s still a job to do, and the emotions can wait for the final 55 kilometers.
No matter what, we’ve had an absolutely incredible journey — and now there’s just one last stretch of work left before we’re completely across the finish line 🩵
