Today started as a brilliant day! Nice weather and a bit of wind. We sped across the landscape, and everything pointed toward a great distance day — until the GPS decided to act up. It suddenly started showing the wrong direction, actually straight into a crevasse area we definitely should not be heading toward. BUT since we navigate by compass, we knew it wasn’t right. Still, we chose to pitch the tent to double- and triple-check everything. Navigation can be tricky when the map is basically just a big white sheet.
We ended up staying where we stopped in confusion, made a new plan, found the correct route, and realized that someone must be messing with the GPS — it’s not to be trusted — but the compass never fails!
So tomorrow we’ll continue with renewed motivation and stored-up energy after what Emma calls an involuntary “rest day,” even though we skied 20 km before stopping.
Happy 5th Sunday of Advent (at least we’re celebrating it)!
