Day 41 to the Southpole - Christmas Eve

Today it’s actually Christmas Eve!!! What an amazing way to celebrate Christmas — being down here in the Antarctic ice desert.
We woke up and the Christmas hustle somehow reached our tent too: the kettle tipped over and spilled coffee everywhere. But Christmas peace settled in once we got going for the day. It’s wonderful skiing here at 86 degrees. Good cold temperatures and wind made the snow easy to move on, and we cruised across the plains. We had decided in advance to do a shorter day so we’d have time to call home before the Christmas afterparty at Ekeberg really kicked off.
After a slightly shorter day, we called and got to talk to our loved ones — which was really nice. We opened a few Christmas presents and ate gingerbread cookies — what more could you ask for?
Hope everyone back home has had a truly lovely celebration and gets into the Christmas spirit, with a wonderful holiday period ❄️
